Mart Laar

Mart Laar (born 22 April 1960) was elected chairman of Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) at the Party Congress on 26 May 2007.

He is a member of the Estonian Parliament - Riigikogu, Chairman of the IRL Parliamentary Group and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.


Laar was the Prime Minister of Estonia 1992-1994 and 1999-2002. He has PhD in History from the University of Tartu (2005) and is an author of several books on Estonian history and resistance to the Soviet WWII occupation.

Mart Laar has been honored with several awards in Estonia and abroad, one of the latest was The Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty 2006.
